I propose Silvercreek as one of the starting locations. It's one of the
main cities in Thalamon (Valthorn is the capital) and it's in the vicinity (or
you can
travel there with minor troubles) of Sol'daran, Dardalon, Mal Yirith etc. The
whole Thalamon is one big adventure area itself so that you don't have to
travel too long to
find some interesting ruins (maybe the capital?).

Like I have mentioned twice before, sages could tell about gods and where to
seek their temples or so. It is more exciting to search them alone of course.
When lonely traveller finds a temple, god may appear to him and so ancient
religion could be risen again.
