Unfortunately I do not agree on this idea. My vision about the cataclysm
differs a lot from this. Mortals caused the cataclysm WITHOUT divine
intervention. The gods did not fight mortals or other gods, instead, the
power mortals invoked in the world was so powerful that it got off their
hands, backfiring and causing terrible destruction and havoc. These
wizards could not stop their experiments with true magic. They unleashed
its powers upon the world in their quest for immortality and ironically
this quest finally became their end since when the first shockwaves hit
the world, they started from these wizards' laboratories and towers, so
these parts of the world (where these towers were located) have suffered
more damage from the devastation than any other places. It is up to you,
fellow designers, where the towers of these powerful wizards were
located originally. You may also decide how many there were these
wizards and if they all had allied together or not. Probably there were
at least TWO alliances which were competing against each other on this
quest for immortality. Their pure selfishness and lack of understanding
towards true magic lead these wizards to the Cataclysm which almost tear
the world apart.
