You are right, partially at least, BUT you could see aligment as a reflection of a culture. Some cultures may be more "evil" than others. Or then the alignment could reflect religions as well. Of course there should be individual exceptions, as always, but basically most people could start where their culture is located, right? Most people in area that is mainly influenced by evil religions would have more "evil" culture and customs than those who are happily living under the blessing of Dazzt or Aluna.
