Shortly, Diku is easy to set up and run a similar MUD like every else, but if you want to do something new, then LPMUD is the choice. With Diku you would need to do the changes directly to the driver, to the C source code and thus you would reboot always after making a change to anywhere else than the world (ie. rooms) and thus it would be real hard to do puzzles, quests or anything like that, not even speaking of more fun things you could do with a LPMUD, as you could modify the code on the fly with easy C-like scripting language. Diku is easy to set up, but you and your users will get bored to it, while LPMUD is hard to set up, but it will make a great MUD after a time. Majik 1 and Majik 2 has been both Diku's and in the case of Majik 2, the main reason for switching to LPMUD was just that it was just too pain to extend the MUD. We had many ideas, but it was almost impossible to implement them all to the Diku driver. -- Tommi Leino / Majik 3D project namhas@majik3d.org https://majik3d-legacy.org/
