After shuffling around in the mailing lists i noticed that you guys were having some trouble developing the system for magic. if u don't think im to presumptious, i got a couple ideas i hope you like,

how bout this, (it includes the ideas that you guys came up with)

The elder gods created the world, they used the force of their will to bring this about. But they discovered that things were not stable unless they concentrated on them. So, they used the force of their will to bring about the power of devine magic. With this power the recreated everything. Things were stable, in balance. yet one of the gods favored the light, things that were good, etc. the other, the opposite. (this is where the proposed system of magic comes in). Anything that was made from divine magic, radiates with a sort of power or energy. It is this power which mortals can control. When a player casts a spell, they draw this 'radiation' into themselves. Then using their mind, their will, they 'channel' it. Yet mortals do not understand magic, so they believe one must use special symbols and say words of power to do their will, thus the control, technique, flesh, power, form, stuff in general comes from. But the average mortal does not have strong enough will to use divine magic. so, one catergory of people, the demi-gods, can use "magic" without the extra symbols and such. the lesser gods can use divine power if anough people worship and or believe in them. the lesser gods use divine magic to a degree and have substantial control of normal magic. The elder gods have mastery of both devine and normal magic. but normal magic itself has a limited use. their is only so much radiation from divinly created things. also, when a mortal casts a spell of normal spell, it pulls in magic of a certain frequency, thus if too many people cast one particular spell too much, it may not work, or may be very weak. divine magic does not have these limitations. but with divine magic one can createand destroy. it does have its disadvantages. Only the elder gods aluna? and namhas? can truly create, and only namhas? and sinister can truly destroy. The amount of devine things created release a certain amount of lesser magic. if aluna? or namhas? create something, the amount of lesser magic released increases and the amount of objects increases also, if namhas? or sinister? destroy something, the amount decreases. if one of the lesser gods destroys something, less devine objects creates more radiation, or the porportion of devine objects to radiation changes.

I know it is complicated but it makes sense, at least to me :)
