Subject: STATUS REPORT 2/M1
From: Tommi Leino (namhas@majik.netti.fi)
Date: Wed Jun 09 1999 - 10:32:11 EEST
Beregar got back from his "vacation" and is now again ready to do some
designing. Even when he was preparing for entrance examination for a school
he did some stuff for Ghalimcar's weather (attached: ghalsaa.txt). MacDuff
did some textures for the client (http://majik.netti.fi/gfx/shotti3.gif),
few cursors and a design for the UI (http://majik.netti.fi/gfx/mjkgui1.jpg).
Mandor (former ripoff-man known as Ondoval) has been taken as a new
designer and took the elves. I did various things for the client like
cleaning up the code a little, adding better system for textures, new
menus and options for controlling detail of level and something else too.
Harum did nothing and so did Yorkaturr. In this week Beregar and MacDuff
was the only ones who dared to sent a status report. Doughnut and Warc's
project has been suspended because of a month's inactivity.

(Namhas)
- initial object system using a real
object-class instead of series of kludges
- dummy player object
+ initial movement system using which the
user can move the dummy player object,
see from its eyes or from semi-isometric
perspective. Movement system should look
for collisions and follow the landscape
(Harum)
- must be able compile for both Win32 and Linux,
without needing any additional libraries that
we used only because of a kludge
+ solid installation base, the client should
move all images etc. to directory where they
belong and the format for data etc. files
should be decided

* rc-file parsing system
(Yorkaturr)
* scripts for building automatic daily snapshots
of both cvs source code and pre-compiled
binaries

about it.
the Desert of Ghalimcar is an extremely dry and rigid place where temperature
varies from -15 (night) to +60 celcius (day) all around the year. Ghalimcar
is dry because no normal rainfall appears there, this is because when the sun
goddess Aluna created the desert she altered rainfall patterns in the area
by raising two great mountain chains in the north and south which now prevent
damp air entering from the sea.
Ghalimcar is not completely dry, however, for there used to be many large
rivers before it became a desert and while they all were buried in the
process which formed the mountain chains, and eventually the desert, a few of
them still exist below the surface, feeding oasises and plants with fresh
water. The only exception is the heart of the desert which is completely dry.
In addition to complete dryness, there is also another exceptional feature in
the Heart of the desert - temperature, which never drops below +50 celcius
degrees.
