Food and drink

In Majik, will the game keep track of hunger and thirst? If you don't drink or eat for a certain amount of time, do you get weak or die? And will you have to use the potty?

It would be like being your own Tomagotchi! :P

I hope for an pretty automatic solution in this one. This must sound a little lame, but let's say that you walking your char down the street and the char is quite hungry so he'll automatically, if money permits, buy some stuff from they guys selling them on the street. I don't want stuff like being half-thirsty and crossing a river and later die from dehydration.

In my opinion a lot of gameplay could be built around your character's need for food and water. Food and water also will give space for a couple of professions, such as the farmer, the hunter and the cook. Poorer people would try to hunt those rats and grill them on campfire or just simply beg while the richer ones could buy luxury foods made from ingredients collected around the Majik. The food you eat also could affect your attributes in order to provide even more opportunities for building up a nice economy.

As the time in Majik is 3:1 in relation to real life time, it would mean that you would need to drink only once in your long gaming session (8h) and still you could extend it for a few more gaming sessions before your character would get too weak. Speaking of food, you wouldn't get bored clicking that eat button.

Hey! I don't want no computer jerkin' me around like some blased marionette! It's a good idea, but it's also kinda creepy...

Thank you, by the way, for that prompt reply. (Sheesh, do you guys even have a life?)

I don't want to lose control of my PC either. What I want is pretty transparent action for it, just like pathfinding, it would be a convenience, not a burden. Of course we have to set some standard to what someone eats. And in correct situations too. I don't want a situation where I'm fleeing from an big pack of hungry steet-children with big teeths in some dark alleys and suggenly my PC leans and grabs a rat and resumes running while muching the captured fast food. I've also seen enough of this kinds of stuff : "look." "You see the muddy and dirty streets of the elven city of XYZ. Dirty elves are running around everywhere!" "drop cake" "You drop the cake." "kick cake" "You send the cake flying into the skies and it lands a couple of feets, arms, legs (or just insert your favourite appendage here) from you. The elves turn their eyes on the cake half-sunk in the mud, but are too spineless to snatch it while you're around." "get cake" "Got 1 cake(s)." "eat cake" "The cake was delicious! Angry elves hiss and swear at you."

Good points.

As has been discussed before, the type of food you eat also has some significance, especially when doing strenuous tasks. This is partially made possible by our longish day cycle, as there is time to make choices.

I like that idea, because in this one text MUD I played (briefly), The Jungle, you get hungry like every five minutes, which drives me nuts, especially when writing long messages.

I think maybe different races could have different metabolisms and different diets, like some are vegetarians and some are carnivores, while others are omnivores. Some foods that are a delicacy to some races are toxic to others.

And perhaps some could be nocturnal, lurking around at night, while other races are diurnal.
