I was scanning through the WorldBook and noticed that one of the needed to design things was listing the places of worship for the gods and the intial positions of power for Sages and Gods.
I personally would love the scrap this idea because I think we should lets the players play this out for themselves. I mean there is no building called The Chruch of so and so but it is a building which is used as a chruch. The players can pray and the gods can recive their divine points no matter where they are.
Secound if the players want someone to lead them until they themselves can supply their own leader let them ask. I personally don't want to lead a band of half-witted morons unless they at least have the brains to ask for help.

Statically defined places of worship add variety and purpose, and players need as much readily provided variety and purpose as possible.
Places of worship do not in any way hinder the players' freedom of action in the sense that players can of course pray and otherwise worship their gods outside these places, nor do they necessarily only mean churches.
Social bonding is never a stronger motivation for an individual player than his will of power and character minmaxing, and by making worship more effective in certain centralized places, we can make sure that a lot of players frequent there instead of all of them roaming where they will, which in turn results in further social behavior and sense of unity among the players, a thing that should be of utmost importance.
If you don't want to lead players, then you have no reason of being a sage.

i agree, there should be areas that are "perfered" worship zones for gods. These areas of the map could be ancient temples or ruins. Or even just a very attractive area. For evil gods like yorkaturr possibly volcanos or places of destruction would be perfered worship zones. :P
Players that travel or even choose to live at/near these in order to worship there, would gain even greater favors from the gods they worship.
