Might seem strange, but really, I had not ever tried even single graphical MMORPG for real. Now I decided that I will try at least one of them, so I picked Asheron's Call Dark Majesty from local computer store as I passed across it. I picked it simply because it was the cheapeast one. :) I played it for a bit over an hour, and got bored. My opinion is so far that it really is pathetic. Repopping monsters and didn't really got in to player interactions.
Does anyone want to suggest me a new game or is there anyone who's playing AC who would want to guide me around there, if there is anything to see apart from that what I've seen already? :)

AC is really good if you give it a chance, but I would say that it's golden age is over. The first year was pure magic, the second started to turn into routine, and now it seems the macroers and powergamers have the game completely overridden. The only reason me and my friends are clinging on to our accounts is so we still can still have a chance at participating in the AC2 beta (which looks stunning: http://zone.msn.com/asheronscall2/). Even if you hate the game, KEEP IT, because all the active subscribers will automatically get in the beta.
If you still want to play, what server will you be playing on?

I haven't tried any either. :) But I am thinking about getting Never Winter Nights when the linux version is released. I am not completely sure that is a MMORPG in the pure form though.
If you do find one or you try out Asheron's call some more please update us on what you like or don't like. I would be interested to hear.

Well, I don't think playing any game for an hour will give
you much of an idea as to what they are about. MMORPG's in
particular (and all RPGs for that matter) need commitment
and time. You need to spend time to really get going. The
same is for text-based muds as well however (No one enjoys
playing the first 10 levels of any mud).
However, I do agree that the graphical muds that I have
played haven't gotten close to the text-based muds as far as
gameplay depth and roleplaying are concerned.

I would suggest trying out the game called Helbreath. Its in open beta now so its free =). I think it could use alot more work but the fishing, mining and your weapons getting broken are some cool features that might spring up some idea's for majik plus its free to check out.Leveling is fairly quick too at the start. You can find it at this webaddress http://211.51.62.243/.Just go to the international site and not the Korean one to get the download.

You must try the game called underlight. The graphics are very outdated...(the characters are cardboard cutout like ala duke nukem and doom) but the actual game is magnificent. The game is almost entirely player run and roleplaying is a rule that must be followed. IT is a lot of fun and I urge you to try it

Ok. I'm soon level 6 there now. Vade the Wolf gave me a lot of EQ, and someone casted protection spells and I partied with Daemond, who was same level as I and as newbie, too. Got a bit more in to the game, but still, it seems like the most safe and effective newbie exp-making really is to just stand still in the wilderness and wait for respawning monsters and then just shoot as they appear and they appear quickly enough. Very nice sky in that game, also. I'm playing on Wintersebb world or something like that, it was first on the list. My name is Wothar there, an archer.
It was quite fun, even though it felt like playing graphical, interactive progressquest (www.progressquest.com), repeating the cycle: "Heading to killing fields, killing n+1 monsters, going to the city, selling the loot, buying better eq, heading back to the killing fields".

yeah, and that's the entire point of Majik3D, isn't it?
all theoriginal develpoers and many of the new ones (me included) are MUD-players, and that's what we want in the game
but this playing of other mmorpgs will really help, tell us just what we DON'T want in the game, and also what was actually done good, to give us ideas

Uh, the core design team is all former mud-players, all fed up with muds.
A graphical MUD is quite exactly what we are not aiming for.

yep, i my self have never played a mmorpg either, and likely wont for a while. world of warcraft might get my attention, it being a mmorpg made by blizzard should be half way decent quality.
I never played MUD's because i found them boreing and repeditive. I'm glad majik won't be a graphical mud :)
