Torque game engine

What do you guys think about the Torque game engine that boosts up Tribes 2? Why have you planned to build an engine on your own, when there is a ready engine that can be used. Is the code that you built your own or does it have parts from other sources (of course but in what scale)?

And of course.. when is there going to be a release of the new engine on Majik?

You forget one thing. The torque engine is owned partly through Garagegames.com and you also have to dish out $100 per source code copy per programmer. If you do create a game with it, Garagegames must be the only publisher for it... which sucks (their customer support is LAME).

Uhhm, yeah (chuckle), that sounds (tsihih) like a very, erm, attractive foundation on which to build a, uh, game...

that would defeat the whole prosepect of a free game. If we have to pay a license fee then we will have to charge people for the game.

I still don't understand how we can provide a free network game, how is going to show us the money for bandwidth and hardware?

Yes.. that would be nice to know. How is the game funded and from where are the costs covered from? For example the costs of managing the server etc.

We could get sponsers, advertizeing on the website, and forums, there are ways, but yea, if this is a bandwith intensive app, then we will have to find places that have banewith to burn.. hehe

i am 100% oposed to a popup on anything, and no ingame banners. And no ingame ads of any type, maybe ads for things in game :P

I hate runescapes banners and pop-up(s)! Please! No that kind of "moneymaking" (In the game)! Perhaps in the www-site, but not in the game...

what i ment by ingame ads for ingame things is, nothing prevents someone from buying some paper and writing an ad for there potion shop on it and sticking it on a wall in some pub.

But you won't see an ad for www.something.com in the game.

that we didn't place there, nothings preventing someone doing the same thing to advertize there website, but we will have the ability to track who wrote it and put it there, it will be a violation of the TOS agreement, and your account can be banned or character deleted for doing something like that. (my two cents)

If you allowed a few Advertisers to advertise in the game, it probably couldn't hurt, of course they would pay for it to help support servers. What I mean is an in-game bulletin board with paper ads stuck to it. You may even be able to RP it into the game. But definately keep it to a minimum and keep all of them together. But that's just my opinion, not a complaint or anything.

Example: Use Yahoo, because even a Troll could get organized with Yahoo.

I know, your all laughing.

My opinion is that we should by all means possible keep advertisements out of the game world. I guess we could do a long way with our current server and if we ever need it upgraded, I see it fairly easy. We could even move it to Taika and have it there for free for long. When we're going to need some serious bandwidth and clusters of computers I guess we're so popular at the time that ISPs would be more than eager to host us so they could advertise that they're providing the service -- we're going to rock that much, right? :) The time when we're going to need that cluster I think it is already year 2028.

Well, your the man. But I'm sure this game will rock, I mean, it's graphical. That's not to say that every graphical game is big, but this will be one of a kind.
