the fabled landscape test

WHERE IS THAT TEST? you guys said it would be released weeks ago.. is the landscape bug so unbearably hideous that we cant simply release and then release a non-buggy version when it is fixed? if the bug is so bad, and isnt likely to be fixed in the near future (as in REALISTICALLY one week), at least organize to have the buggy, incomplete version leaked to the designers on someones ftp server.. how many people do you think snoop around in our ftp directories that havent already involved themselves in the project? not a hell of a lot. giving us designers some kind of concrete "proof of progress" will not only TREMENDOUSLY boost motivation, but will also help build more confidence (in me anyway) that you coders arent just not working on it. i think weve been patient long enough..

I'll try to compile a Linux version sometime next week. The code itself is portable, it should be just a matter of compiling an assorted set of libraries and making a Makefile-based build system (the current one uses vc++ projects).

There's an internal test version in my home directory (not on ftp) named majikclient.zip. I try to keep the server on, but it might go down anytime.

The bug has been fixed. We'll put up a version for a quick internal beta test soonish, followed by actual release if nothing major appears.
Here's a screenshot
I took tonight.

The bug manifests itself as "disappearing landscape pieces", or something. I have some experience on coding
the old Majik 3D client. Such bugs can be really really nasty and it may take full days to fix the bug,
all time debugging - and it might take much more time if
you aren't the one who coded the thing in the first place.
However, as far as I know, the test versions I have tried never bugged for me at all, except for the fact that the model was walking backwards and didn't start from quite center of the landscape but from the edge where there were no landscape at all. I have a single-user test version on my computer if you want to try it I could send it to you. I could actually make it available from Majik's FTP server.

Patience patience :)
We have identified the cause of the bug, and it is being fixed, although the fix itself is not trivial but in the end will increase performance.

Indeed, nothing is achieved by staying silent when it comes to Majik. Loud yelling, threats of violence and bribing helps a lot more.
